Before You Begin
- Wear old clothes or place a towel around your shoulders to avoid stains.
- Put on disposable gloves.
- Make sure your hair is free from heavy oils, gels, or styling products for best results.
Step 1: Wash Your Hair
- Shampoo your hair thoroughly to remove buildup, dirt, and oils.
- Do not apply conditioner — conditioner can create a barrier that prevents the colour from absorbing properly.
- Towel-dry your hair gently until it is damp, not dripping wet.
Step 2: Prepare Your Skin & Workspace
- Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or barrier cream around your hairline, ears, neck, and any areas that might come into contact with the dye.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from staining.
- Place an old towel, cape, or cloth around your shoulders.
Step 3: Section Your Hair
- Divide your hair into 4 main sections:
- Left front
- Right front
- Left back
- Right back
- Clip each section with sectioning clips.
- Working in sections ensures even colour distribution and prevents patchiness.
Step 4: Apply the Colour
- Shake the bottle well before opening.
- Starting with one section, apply the dye ½ inch away from the scalp at first, then gradually work toward the roots.
- Use a tint brush or your gloved fingers to spread the dye evenly from roots to ends.
- Comb the dye through each section using a wide-tooth comb to ensure all strands are covered.
- Repeat until all hair sections are fully saturated.
Step 5: Processing Time
- Once the dye is applied, cover your hair with a plastic processing cap.
- Leave the colour on for at least 15 minutes.
- You may use a hooded dryer or blow dryer on low heat for deeper penetration (heat is optional but can intensify colour).
- For a richer or longer-lasting result, some users leave the colour on for 25–30 minutes, but 15 minutes is generally effective.
Step 6: Rinsing the Colour
- Remove the plastic cap.
- Rinse your hair with warm water only.
- Continue rinsing until the water runs completely clear.
- Do not shampoo at this stage — shampooing immediately after will strip the freshly applied colour.
- Optional: Apply a light conditioner if your hair needs extra moisture.
Step 7: Dry & Style
- Gently towel-dry or air-dry your hair.
- Style as desired using your usual products.
- Avoid heat styling for the first day if possible to help the colour settle.
Aftercare Tips (For Longer-Lasting Colour)
- Use sulfate-free shampoo to prevent colour fade.
- Wash hair less frequently (2–3 times a week is ideal).
- Avoid hot water when washing hair; use cool or lukewarm water instead.
- Deep-condition regularly to keep hair healthy and shiny.
